Abhyanga-Marma Chikitsa

ayurveda massage

An abhyanga-marma massage is considered a complete treatment and is customized to each person and their specific needs. Ayurveda places great importance on the regular use of massage for overall well-being and health maintenance.

Abhyanga is a traditional full body massage given in Ayurvedic medicine. Used both for its preventative and curative effects on the body, many benefits come from this particular style of massage. Abhyanga is a customized massage using warm herbalized oils to balance the doshas in the body while also addressing any current health issues. Ayurvedic massage not only promotes circulation and assists the body in expelling toxins; it promotes deep relaxation and rejuvenates the body.

Marma points are considered vital points of the body which can be compared to the acupuncture points used in the Chinese medical system. the 107 marma points of the body serve as a point of access to the body’s innate intelligence, affecting the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of the person. Putting pressure on these points works to manipulate the subtle energy or prana flow as well as treating stiff muscles and improving the overall circulation of blood and lymphatic fluid in the body. During a massage, specific points will be chosen to place emphasis on depending on each person’s needs.

By the use of massage, one can overcome aging process and fatigue of the body. Massage promotes eyesight, happiness, nourishment, longevity and health. It cures the diseases of the skin and produces sturdiness. Just like tender leaves that appear on a tree whose root is sprinkled with water, similarly, a person’s tissues increase in strength and health.”
